Bacon, Cabbage and Gruyere Pizza

  • This recipe makes enough topping for one large pizza for 2-4 people
  • There are lots of pizza base recipes available - here's a quick and easy one - or of course you can buy one or just use bread!
  • Sauté the bacon in a heavy large frying pan over medium heat until it is cooked. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to a kitchen towel to drain.
  • Add the cabbage to same frying pan and sauté until wilted (about 5 minutes). Sprinkle caraway seeds and vinegar over the cabbage and blend well. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Shape the dough into a round ball and roll it out on a floured surface into a round shape. Roll it out until it’s the size you want and lay it on an oiled pan or baking sheet (if using a pizza stone, put it in the oven to preheat).
  • Brush with the mustard, then the cabbage mixture, then the bacon. Sprinkle on the cheeses. Bake for about 12 minutes in an oven preheated to 240 C degrees, until the crust is crisp and golden.
